Awake.AI and Intel introduce high tech port monitoring solution

More and more ports around the world are turning to the Internet of Things (IoT), advanced analytics and machine learning to enhance their operational performance. With this in mind, Awake.AI and Intel have teamed up to combine edge, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G technologies, leading port operations into the age of computing.

The Smart Port as a Service solution uses machine-learning models to detect objects in the port yard using sensors installed in the port area and automatically provides real-time awareness of utilization rates and cargo flows.

Among the positives that result from the use of that platform is the better use of the existing capacity, the reduced emissions of the port area, the accurate forecast of arrivals and departures in real time, the optimized port calls based on artificial intelligence and computer vision information, real-time information sharing and time and cost savings.

"For example, Lidar sensor data, often combined with other sources of data, can be used to optimize the arrival and departure of landside traffic. Sensors can detect congestion, enabling re-routing port gate and inner area traffic," commented Karno Tenovuo, CEO of Awake.AI.

With a powerful, scalable data-driven platform capable of handling tens of millions of events a day, integrated into port systems, shipping line systems along with APIs, web and mobile tools that support automated and manual cargo flow events, Awake.AI can provide full end-to-end visibility through a cargo flow control center, according to a statement.
